Knowledge is power.  It is a universal truth that education opens doors of opportunity in life.  A well-qualifed individual is not only esteemed in society but is also an asset to the nation.

Unfortunately, there are many capable students who are unable to fulfil their dreams for further education.  This puts a stop on their ambition to pursue a professional career and holds back growth projects.

The Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) understands the problems of the student community.  As a gesture of support, BDB is proud to offer Education Loan Facility (ELF) to all Bahrainis.  For the first time in Bahrain, loan assistance will be provided to all needy students.  No deserving student will be denied the opportunity to pursuer an education programme.

Eligibility for Educational Loan Facility:

Eligibility for the ELF is based on the financial need of the proposed student and other factors as mentioned below:

• Candidate should be a Bahraini National.
• Candidate should have the necessary academic qualification to qualify for the education programme at the concerned university.
• Candidate age who is applying for loan should be between 18-55 years.
• Candidate should have satisfactory credit banking refernce.
• If applicants for loan are students, then they should nominate a sponsor or employed guardian willing to settle the loan.

Educational Loan granted for the following terms:

• Academic programme tuition fees.
• Exams and registration fees.
• Books and equipments.

Academic programmes financed by Education Loan:

• Bachelor degree in all major specialisations.
• Master degree in all specialisations.
• Doctorate degree in all specializations.

Loan Amount:

• Single obligor maximum limit of BD 15.000/-.
• The breakup of the fees semester-wise or as required by the institution will be submitted to BDB.

Loan Duration (Tenor):

• Duration of the loan will be for a maximum of 7 years.
• A grace period of upto 6 months may be sanctioned.
• Loan repayment will start after the grace period.

Competitive Rates:

Required documents:

1. A copy of the CPR or personal identity.
2. A copy of the passport.
3. 6 months banking statements of the person applying for the loan.
4. A copy of the last education certificate (BSc. or master degree)>
5. A copy of the detailed marks (last period of tuition or secondary school certificate).
6. Acceptance certificate in the academic programmed and a list of tuition charges.
7. Salary certificate (of the applicant if an employee) or the Guarantor.
8. A copy of the last paid salary.
